Blizzard Entertainment has announced on May 12, 2016 that there was more than 9.7 million players who have participated in the game’s Open Beta. The Open Beta was accessible via PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One from May 5th up until May 10th. All in all the participants were able to give more than 81 million hours in over 37 million matches.
This has been the biggest Open Beta as of yet by Blizzard.
The CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime said that:
We are thrilled that such an incredible number of players from around the globe got a chance to check out Overwatch during the Open Beta…Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the full game ahead of its launch- the response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast.

The numbers mentioned for the Overwatch Open Beta has beaten the open beta’s of The Division at 6.4 million players and Destiny at 4.6 million players.
Blizzard’s multiplayer first-person shooter – Overwatch features 21 heroes which are available to play in 6 vs. 6 matches. The game will be launched in May 24, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
