1. More Successful than Witcher 3
Developer CD Projekt Red are known for their long development times, an example is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which stayed in development for three years. In return, the game has been one of the highest-rated RPGs of the last decade.
Cyberpunk 2077 on the other hand was first announced in May of 2012 and is expected to launch this year. This makes the development time of the game around eight years.
Although, we still have to consider that the long time spent in production is not a sure-fire way of a successful game e.g. Duke Nukem Forever. We do know that CD Projekt Red has done it before with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and is most likely to do it again for Cyberpunk 2077.
If you’ve been following the game’s development, you’d know that it had been delayed twice already stating reasons that they are wanting to fix bugs and balance the game “both content and gameplay wise”.
The launch date that Cyberpunk 2077 is going for is November 19, 2020, available for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will also have a launch for Stadia, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
We are banking on the thought that having the game release on all these platforms would mean that it will be refined and perfected once it launches.
2. CD PROJEKT RED are Great Story Creators
The game offers varied story options that you can choose from. You can choose to be a Nomand, or a Street Kid or even a Corpo. Then, depending on the decisions you make will bring about your advantages and disadvantages in the game.
Choosing to be a Street Kid will give you street smarts as well as great navigation around the city. You’d have knowledge of street slang and would know how to deal with gangs.
If you choose the Corpo route, you are the manager in the Arasaka group with high negotiation skills and higher opportunities.
Nomands on the other hand know nothing about life on the street nor about corporations but are able to survive tough situations.
3. Amazing graphics plus RTX powered Ray Tracing
Cyberpunk 2077 will be launching with amazing graphics because of the GeForce RTX-powered ray tracing technology.
The game also uses the REDengine 4 which was used on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The addition of the ray tracing technology would mean that we can expect realistic and accurate reflections, ambient occlusion, and natural-looking lighting and shadows.
With the DirectX 12 Ultimate, the Night City is sure to come alive!
There will be different graphics options for those playing on PC where players are able to customize the Night City.
4. Keanu Reeves!
It seems like anything Keanu Reeves touches turns into gold! Reeves was announced to be playing a character in the game in E3 2019. He won’t only voice a character but a character has been made to look like him.
Cyberpunk will also come with 10 fully voiced in-game languages plus 8 that are not.
The fully voiced languages include English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Chinese simplified, and Japanese.
Those that will be supported by subtitles only are Hungarian, Turkish, Czech, Arabic, Thai, Chinese traditional, Korean, and Spanish Latin American.
5. Weapons, Items, Gear and a lot of Tech Customizations
Cyberpunk 2077 offers a huge range of weapons, items, gears and tech to customize the playstyle of the character V.
The various types of weapons include pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, rifles, and melee weapons. These are made by the different customizations across Night City.
The weapons that know of right now are the Tsunami Nekomata, a semi-automatic sniper rifle that is able to penetrate heavy armor, the Militech M-10AF Lexington which is an automatic pistol, and the Araska Thermal Katana, a nano filament heated blade capable that brings about devastating attacks because of the incredible heat that it emits.
Weapons are available in three separate styles which are Power, Smart and Tech.
Power weapons are the most basic ones and the smart weapons are more complicated with auto-locking and ricochet. There are also the tech weapons that are able to pierce to armor.
6. Open World and RPG
Cyberpunk 2077 is based on the pen-and-paper table top game Cyberpunk. It offers an open-world that is set in the metropolis of Night City in Northern California.
You will play as V and your story will start out depending on which story you choose: the Street Kid, Nomand or Corporate.
CD Projekt Red has not revealed much about the game, but the snippets made available shared that the residents of Night City are being addicted to Braindance which is a next-level entertainment with a virtual reality interface putting them in extreme scenarios.
Braindance had been a means of escape for the people of the Night City from their poor living conditions.
7. RATED 18+
CD Projekt Red announced that the game is rated as 18+. The game features nudity, addiction, drug use, prostitution, sexual language, intense sexual relations and a dark narrative.
8. The 7th District Badlands
Another location in the Cyberpunk 2077 aside from the Night City is the Badlands. This is a vast plain of burning oil fields, pollution, landfills, acid rains and opportunistic nomads.
The Badlands is not the best place to be, but for the Nomads, this is home and is yet to be touched by the Future’s ideas.
9. Gameplay, Quests, and Side Stories
Cyberpunk 2077 is a huge game. It comes with a day and night cycle with a full day lasting 3 hours in real-time. As compared to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s full day which is about two hours only.
In the Night City, there will be the main quests and side quests called the street stories. The main quests will of course move the story along. Completing or failing these quests will have a lasting impact on the city and its residents.
There will be different ways to complete the objectives given you. You can choose from using force or stealth.
While main quests cannot be failed completely, the street stories can. Street stories are more of side jobs in the game which lets V explore the city as well as earn rewards. There are unique objectives for each one!
Side quests can be unlocked throughout the city. You are also able to decide to either take or refuse a job, but that does come with serious consequences.
10. Diverse Character Creation Tool
Cyberpunk 2077’s character creation is a deep system that allows players to customize every part of the character V.
First thing to choose is the lifepath, this is where you either choose to be a Nomad, Street Kid, or Corpo.
Next is V’s appearance. This includes gender, skin type, eyes, eyebrows, mouth, jaw, ears, scars, tattoos, teeth, piercings, blemishes, pubic hair, penis type, cyberware and many more.
The starting skills can also be selected which includes intelligence, reflexes, technical abilities and cool. Each attribute is able to make V into a unique character.
It seems like we can expect great things to come out of Cyberpunk 2077! The game has not been released yet, but the hype cannot be ignored! CD Projekt Red and Netflix recently announced an anime series coming called Cyberpunk: Edgerunnders.
