MICROSOFT’S MOST EXPENSIVE ACQUISITION

Microsoft purchasing Activision Blizzard for $69 billion tops their list of the most expensive acquisitions beating the LinkedIn purchase of 2016 for $29 billion.

how much has Microsoft bought Activision for?

Microsoft was able to reach $144.4 billion in acquisitions since 2011. The cash buyout of Activision is 53.7% of all of its acquisitions.

Included in the list of takeovers is Zenimax, the parent company of Bethesda for $8 billion.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said “When they originally called, we said we would think about it, and then they made this offer, which was incredibly attractive at a 45 per cent premium to the share price. And I think that made a lot of sense.”

Kotick said the purchase “made a lot of sense” since the timing is perfect. The proposal came just as Activision Blizzard is planning for the future of the company and thinking that they would have to hire experts in cybersecurity, data analytics, machine learning and AI, which is a lot of money to spend on.

Also with Facebook (now Meta), Netflix, Sony, Microsoft and Google all pushing towards streaming and cloud gaming, it is hard to compete so selling Activision Blizzard seems like the best move to make.

As the complete takeover is finalized which is around June 2023, Kotick will be stepping down as CEO.

Will Call of Duty be an Xbox Exclusive?

We don’t know this for sure. As of the moment, however, Spenser said that games that are already available for PS4 and PS5 will still remain available for the platforms moving forward.

can I still play Call of Duty on PS4?

In the future though, we might see some of the games becoming Xbox exclusive titles. We are assuming this as Bethesda’s upcoming game Starfield has been confirmed by Microsoft to be an Xbox exclusive title that will be launching for PC and Xbox Series X|S.

Possible games that could be exclusive are Call of Duty, Diablo 2, Overwatch and World of Warcraft.
