The most awaited and very first DLC of Battlefield 1 is scheduled for next year. The expansion is called ‘They Shall Not Pass’. The team behind this DLC shares with us their inspiration with the Battlefield 1 Concept Exploration in their newest blog post.

Certain historical events were the inspiration of the upcoming expansion and here are a few of them. In 1916 the land of Verdun is at war, it is called the Devil’s Anvil. The fires that started spread through the forest and onto the nearby villages like Samogneaux. There is also a fort in the area which is called Fort Vaux. Here there are numerous underground corridors. This is the location where the French encountered the Germans. They fought using flamethrowers, grenades, and poison gases in these cramped spaces. The terrain of Verdun was greatly changed by the war which now has trenches, underground fortresses, and tunnels.

Another inspiration is the battle of Soissons during the 1918’s which revolves around the bridge of the Aisne River as well as the village of Fismes.
