It is a joke of course! This is a fake Devolver Digital subscription service that is described as a “groundbreaking new way to keep consumers paying for content under the warm blanket of a subscription service.”

The mock subscription is making fun of other subscription services that ask for the premium price for content that is already included in the game’s regular price.

The mockery is pushed even further with it making fun of us the consumers. Saying that why do we pay good money for stuff that can be taken away from us like avatars, game packs and cosmetics.

All of these are presented in the hilarious video above.

And if you click here, you get to see that you are already subscribed and an active member.

Devolver also shared a few trailers along with the MaxPass+ Showcase. The games include Trek to Yomi, Wizard with a Gun, and Inscryption.

What’s interesting is that one of the games is only available as a physical copy for Nintendo Switch. The game is Demon Throttle and it will be arriving in 2022.

It’s not that physical copies of games are bad, but not giving an option for a digital copy does hurt the consumer. It’s like what they were saying with the mock MaxPass+ subscription.

Last year digital sales outsold physical sales. This was due to the Coronavirus, however, we do think that digital sales will do much better than physical sales eventually.

If a game is only available physically, prices can go up if people get scared that they would miss out. Also, if you lose a physical copy, you have to purchase another.

For us, it is more convenient, as well as safer to make digital purchases. As long as the game is in your account you can bring it with you everywhere you go.

Another thing is that eventually, games will be subscription-based only. Right now a lot of people are hating on Stadia, however, in ten or more years the streaming services of Xbox Game Pass, EA Play and Uplay would be so much better.
