Return to the ever-expansive world of “Romance of the Three Kingdoms” in Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires the stand-alone expansion of Dynasty Warriors 9 made by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., Empires leans more on strategy and tactics rather than the hack and slash Musou type of game that the franchise is known for. Specifically, the changes from nine are that the open-world design has been discarded for a more traditional approach, with new systems that reward more activities outside of combat like the country conquering sim, and as mentioned before combat more focused on tactics and strategy but the thrilling 1 vs 1000 is still there albeit a bit more toned down.

• The Combat has now been scaled down to only include Castle sieges which take place outside of a castle, with different features depending on the castle’s location with one team attacking and another defending, instead of just wiping out the enemy you are not tasked with capturing important strategic points.
• While out of combat you can do a number of activities like playing politics at the royal court and hanging out with your fellow officers, but these all depend on your lifestyle and position become an Unaffiliated Officers, Generals, Rulers, and more.
• You can customize your own character in the Edit Mode with hundreds of customizable parts that you can use, but if that’s not your style you can always pick and choose from the 94 unique Musou officers and 700 Generic officers that can be found in Dynasty Warriors 9.
