If you are not on Windows 10 yet, and still using Windows XP, Vista, 7 or 8, maybe it is time to reconsider upgrading to Windows 10.

When Windows 10 was being introduced, it had a free offer of upgrading from Windows 7 and 8.1 to the latest. The promotion was supposed to have ended on July 29, 2016. But that is not the case since you can still upgrade your Windows 7 or 8.1 to an activated version of Windows 10. Although the free upgrade is not being advertised anymore, it still is available.

There are several ways to upgrade to Windows 10, one of which is to download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool. Once this is downloaded, you just have to run the program and it will give you the option to either. “Upgrade this PC now” or “Create Installation Media”. The first option will upgrade your operating system without touching your files. The other one will let you start fresh.

To learn more on how to use the Media Creation tool, you just have to go to this page.

If you are able to upgrade to Windows 10, you are able to check if you have the activated version by going to Start (Windows Icon) > Settings (Gear Icon) > Update & Security > Activation. What you are supposed to see is Windows 10 edition and its activation status.

But if Windows 10 does not get activated automatically, then you would have to click on change product key and manually place your Windows 7 or 8.1 key. This can usually be seen on a sticker somewhere on your computer.

Note: If you are not well versed in this type of thing, don’t hesitate to ask a friend for help with the upgrade, especially someone who is familiar with the process.

If you are planning to build a new PC or upgrading your old Windows version, then purchasing the license key will be your option which is kind of expensive. However, there is a third-party key seller that offers a complete Windows 10 key that is only a fraction of the full price. Get to check out our deals below:

Usually, the keys that have the lowest prices are the OEM keys. These can be used on one machine only and cannot be activated on any other computer again. Replacing a motherboard or hard drive on the computer might result in you calling Microsoft to transfer update the license in order to get Windows 10 activated again.

  • Windows 7 Support Will End in January 2020

What this means is that you are no longer able to ask for support from Microsoft if anything happens on your Windows 7. Also, Windows 7 will no longer receives any security updates which means your computers are now prone to new malware. For Windows 8 and 8.1, the mainstream support has ended last year, what this means is that there won’t be new features available for the two operating systems anymore. The security updates will end for Windows 8 and 8.1 on January 10, 2023.

  • The Final Version of Windows is Windows 10

What this means is that there won’t be any other numbered iterations of Windows. What will happen is that Microsoft will continually be updating Windows 10 with new features, security updates and so much more. Windows 10 was designed differently by Microsoft, it has a modular design where if they make changes in certain areas, other areas won’t be affected.

  • The Best Security Features Are Available in Windows 10

This can get very technical but to put it simply, Windows 10 has a lot of security features, some are under the hood while some can be configured directly by the user.

  • Windows 10 Supports DirectX 12 Natively

The latest version of the DirectX API is DirectX 12. This helps games, as well as other software, optimize your hardware to have a smoother experience. Some games are also set up to be optimized by DX12 instead of the earlier APIs.

  • Windows 10 Is Perfect For Owners Of The Xbox One

If you have the Xbox One which is owned by Microsoft, there are several games that can have cross-play, cross-progression, and even cross-ownership between the Windows 10 PC and the gaming console. The games available on the Xbox Play Anywhere Program can be purchased digitally for the Xbox One. And then be downloaded and played on the Xbox One or a Windows 10 PC. An Xbox Game Pass for PC is also now being offered by Microsoft. This is a subscription service that allows access to more than 100 games as well as Day 1 access to new releases.
