GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is now available at the Rockstar Store to be purchased. This was seen on November 14th, late at night.
UPDATE: NOVEMBER 13, 2021
The Rockstar launcher had been available for some hours but it is now already available. However, the download button for GTA Trilogy – Definitive Edition for PC is still not available.
According to the Rockstar Games Customer Support, Rockstar acknowledged their removal of the game’s PC version:
“The Rockstar Games Launcher is now back online. However, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will remain unavailable to play or purchase as we work to remove some data files that were unintentionally included in the new versions of these games. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and we hope to have the correct versions of the games up and running for everyone as soon as possible.”
There are players who were able to dig into the files and were able to uncover that the music in the game is in Ogg Vorbis format which is the basic audio codec of Unreal Engine 4. They were also able to discover that some music should have already been removed because of legal issues.
Also, some players were able to find the script for managing the gameplay and missions which is the holy grail for modders.
Another thing is that a cracked version of the trilogy’s Definitive Edition is available in pirated copies which means other players are already playing while you are still waiting for your copy that you paid for and obtained legally.
ORIGINAL POST: NOVEMBER 12, 2021
During the game’s launch, the PC download is suspiciously missing from the store and an announcement on Twitter has been posted saying that they are conducting server maintenance.
It also looks like the missing download button for the PC version of GTA Trilogy is happening worldwide. All the links seem to be broken for Microsoft, even those that have been previously added to your cart are not showing.
Rockstar’s e-mail support client mentioned the following reasons for the server maintenance:
Authentication: When a Rockstar game is launched, authentication must take place successfully, unless you have already wisely switched to offline mode beforehand. As authentication is currently not possible, games will fail to launch.
Downloads: Unfortunately, you probably can’t even at least start downloading the trilogy or other titles like GTA Online or Red Dead Redemption 2 at the moment. So if you had hoped to at least shovel the game files onto your hard drive, you are also doomed to wait.
Cloud service: Even if you could play, the next problem might not be far away. Because if you rely on the convenient cloud service for your game saves, you wouldn’t have access to your files at the moment either.
Store: At least this is good news, at least for your wallet. Your wallet can breathe a sigh of relief because you can’t buy anything in the Rockstar Store anyway. Your account will thank you!
