Hard West 2 is a tactical role-playing game developed by Ice Code Games and published by Good Shepherd Entertainment. Enter a world where you are Gin Carter, a strong infamous outlaw. A rumor spreads that a “ghost train” is traveling in your direction with lots of gold and treasure. With your posse, survive and engage the ghost train. Little do they know, the ghost train will give you the fight of your life.
No attempt at that balancing act will ever be perfect, but Hard West 2 shows just how close you can get. With some inconsistent production values aside, Hard West 2 is a joy to play. If you’re a long-time fan of the genre or just passingly interested, this is one you’re going to want to take a chance on.
Hard West 2 offers a fun mix of text adventures and turn-based strategy battles, with just enough of each to keep things fresh. Awesome and unique mechanics are highlighted in a combat system that forces players outside of their “overwatch” comfort zones, allowing new tactics not seen before in games of this ilk. A bit of fiddly control work does little to tarnish the stellar gameplay. Highly recommended for fans of the genre.
