The Ori and the Will of the Wisps features have been recently talked about by the Senior Producer of Xbox Game Studios, Daniel Smith. He mentioned that they were able to go “all out on this one”.

Smith said that as compared to 2015’s Ori and the Blind Forest, the Will of the Wisps is “three times in size and scope”. He also added that the new characters are contextual, which means that they play a heavy influence on the player’s gameplay experience.

Everything in the expanded world is “more alive” because of the physicality of the environment. The game’s world will be reacting to every move that Ori will be creating. Also, Smith mentioned that everything in the game is handcrafted and in addition to the 3D pipeline, “the environments sway and breathe”.

Boss fights are now more epic in Will of the Wisps as they are now larger all thanks to the 3D pipeline. The bosses are also involved in the game’s storyline. The battles are “multi-phased” which means they have sequences. An example that Smith presented is “the first phase may be combat-related but after you hit your last hit, boom, next phase kicks off, and you’re running for your life from some large creature that’s smashing and crashing after you”.

Smith closed with, “We’re just extremely passionate about trying to make the best video game we can possibly make…We’re really trying to create something that’s not just a videogame, we’re really trying to create art.”

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is set to launch on March 11, 2020, available for PC and Xbox One.
