If you think that you know how to trade in a game and that it would be the same for all the games, then you are wrong. They may be similar in some ways but not completely the same, take Path of Exile for example.

Let us help you in understanding how trading works in Path of Exile by reading on.

WHY IS TRADING IMPORTANT?

Trading is vital if you play with others in the game. Path of Exile is meant to be played with other players so learning the ropes of trading is crucial.

HOW CAN YOU PURCHASE ITEMS FROM OTHER PLAYERS?

The game comes with an auction house where you can find a trade chat channel. If you would want to know more about this, you can visit the game’s official site. What’s great about the site is that it is managed so there is order making it easier to trust the players. Also, filter searches are available making it easy for you to find what you are looking for. The people selling items are players just like yourself. You would also need to buy PoE currency to make the purchase.

HOW CAN YOU SELL ITEMS TO OTHER PLAYERS?

So you’ve decided to sell some items that you are no longer using. You would need a premium stash tab to do this. Actually, no, but having it makes life so much easier. If you don’t have the stash tab then you will have to go to the trading forums, then create a thread. Then you would have to go back to the main website to access the items on your character page, then copy the links of those items and put them on the thread that you’ve created. You also have to put the ‘price x chaos’ tag. It’s a bit complicated. But if you have the premium stash tab, then you would just have to right-click on it, then go to the ‘public option’. Then click on the ‘each item individually priced’ option. Once all that is done, you are ready to place your items on sale. Easy!

WHAT CURRENCIES CAN YOU TRADE WITH?

Path of Exile comes with different options for currencies and it is easy to get confused by it. To make it easier for you, you should choose the most common of the currencies. There are two, and they are the Chaos Orbs and the Exalted Orbs. Chaos Orbs are considered dollar bills and the Exalted Orbs are mainly used for the more expensive items or bulk purchases as they are considered 100 dollar bills.

TRADE ETIQUETTE

There is a trade etiquette that every player should follow. When trading, the buyer should first message the seller (it would help if you double-check if the item is on sale first). Then the seller would have to initiate the trade by sending you an invitation. The buyer must accept the invitation by right-clicking on the seller’s portrait and then look for the ‘visit hideout’ option. The buyer will then be transported to the seller’s hideout.

SCAMS THAT YOU WOULD WANT TO STIR CLEAR OF

In a perfect world, people wouldn’t want to take advantage of other people. But we don’t live in a perfect world, and neither are the players of Path of Exile. Scams may not be rampant as most players are trustworthy but they still do happen. To save yourself from the hassle of being scammed, you must know the red flags.

TRADE, CANCEL, BAIT, AND SWITCH

When trading in the game, players are supposed to hover their cursors over the items that would be traded. This is to inspect that the items are correct. What a scammer would do is that they will wait for you to hover over their items then in a flash cancel the trade to start a new one with items that are of lower value. It is important to make sure that you double-check the items that you are getting so that you wouldn’t get scammed.

FAKE SIX-LINKS

Another scam that you should be aware of is the body armor and weapons that are said to have six-linked sockets. Armor and weapons that have six-links are popular items and they sell well. Sometimes scammers would list the items for sale as “six-links” but in reality only has three or five-link sockets.

LOW-BALL MESSAGE

Probably one of the easiest scams in the game is the low-ball message. The scammer will send you a message interested in buying an item for a lower price than you originally posted. If you are not paying attention and accept this, then you would have been scammed. Make sure to recheck the item’s price whenever somebody asks for it so that you will be able to sell it for the correct price.

BARTERING SCAM

Who doesn’t love a good barter? Walking away with an item that is for a lower price or value than the original because of your bartering skills is a great feeling. However, it is a different case inside of the game. You could receive messages saying that they don’t have enough money for the purchase of your item. Then they would offer you an item to trade for it that is equal to the value of what you are selling. More often than not, the item that they are offering is lower in value. Good practice would be just to accept currency for the items that you would want to sell.

That is it! Hopefully, you would be walking away from this article with a lot of knowledge as well as confidence about trading in the Path of Exile. Good luck with your future tradings.
