About this game

Dwarves have stranded themselves on a foreign island because of a storm destroying their ship in order to get home they must explore the Island and locate their missing brethren. Help them embark on this Unexpected Quest. The main gameplay loop is a mix of resource management and puzzle mechanics with slight RTS gameplay.

• The locals of the island are often friendly they might need your help and give out quests, not all of them are nice though in that case, you might need to hire mercenaries to protect yourself.
• Dwarves don’t mind work but they won’t lift a finger if they are hungry, that sums up most of the resource management of the game give and take most things requires a specific resource to function.
• Buildings most of the time are the best way to advance the level, build bridges, repairing buildings, docks, etc. Mills and Sawmills give you a lot of resources that can sustain you through the level.
• Are your soldiers dying too fast? Workers are staging a strike? Magic items are quick and easy solutions to your problems, they are expensive so save gold, complete quests, open chests.

As an adult and long-time gamer, I feel this really is for a much younger crowd of players. It’s not necessarily a bad game, just very simple and easy with no real apparent challenge.

The campaign can be finished in about seven hours without any real difficulty or climax, and it holds no replay value beyond achievement hunting. The Unexpected Quest does scratch a certain itch for the good ol’ days of the RTS genre and the lack of difficulty makes it a solid buy for those who aren’t genre vets, but with just a little more on offer, this could have been a must-play.
