The lead level designer of the game, Jeremy Kopman told PCGamesN in a recent interview that Wasteland 3 will have “at least 10 major ending points”. The differences in endings will be based on the choices made as well as the conversations selected, plus your interactions with others, “tonnes of smaller choices that impact little permutations of the ending that ripple out through various characters”.
Wasteland 3’s dialogue is vast having about half a million words. The game also comes with a fully voiced dialogue and deep storytelling.
Kopman reminded that they aim to “remind people why they loved the post-apocalyptic RPG, that huge swath of choice and consequences”. This is to ensure that the experience is faithful to the Wasteland series.
Also, for the first time in the Wasteland franchise, an optional story-driven co-op mode is available. Players can team up to take on the main storyline or they can split up and finish their own goals.
Kopman revealed that they were inspired by Bethesda’s Fallout series saying, ”Fallout is known for those choices where you can choose to do something very early in the game, and then it has a ripple effect that comes back 25 hours later.” He even added, “We’re drawing from the Fallout games, that’s our parentage”.
The game first started on Kickstarter in 2016. InXile Entertainment said that expansion packs will be available in the game once it is released.
Wasteland 3 is set to launch on May 19, 2020, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Right now there are no announcements for a Nintendo Switch.
